2026 Updates

Transition to Abrahams Landscapes

Introduction Abrahams Landscapes

In 2026, Abrahams Lawn Service is transitioning to Abrahams Landscapes. We will continue to offer all the services that we currently offer, while adopting more sustainable landscape practices. As always, we strive to make you happy with our services and can adjust our practices to what suits you best.

Eco Friendly Landscape Practices

We have completely phased out gas powered blowers, we started this in 2023 before the county mandate. We are phasing out gas-powered small equipment such as hedge and replacing them with electric equipment as well. We hope to have our team using all electric small equipment by the end of 2027.

We will be using more hand pruning methods and limiting the use of trimming machines. We will be leaving flower seed heads (dead heads) up on some flower species. This will only be applied to plant species that are food sources for local wildlife; these mostly consist of native herbaceous perennial plantings and shrubs. In the fall, we will be leaving the leaves in the flower beds and mowing leaves into the lawn. We will also be leaving up dead stems and leaving ornamental grasses untrimmed until the spring.

What makes these practices more eco-friendly?

Local biodiversity is essential to a healthy planet. There are many species that rely on seed heads for nourishment.  Leaving stems over winter helps local fauna that use the stems as a winter shelter and also provides material for nesting birds. Leaving the ornamental grasses up over winter give birds and other smaller animals shelter for the winter, they also provide nesting material for birds. Leaving the leaf material in the beds lets them naturally compost and create nutrients for plant materials as well as help with soil structure. Leaf debris also provides a home to many animals including over wintering pollinators that are crucial to the ecosystem. Mowing leaves into the lawn helps build up soil structure by adding nutrients and microorganisms.

Abrahams in the Community

In 2025 Abrahams did a volunteer project at Silver Spring International and Sligo Creek Elementary. In collaboration with Bee’s Knees Nursery, we donated a design and the plants to the school. With help from faculty, parent, and student volunteers, we installed an all-native shade garden aligning with the outdoor education program. The garden will serve as an educational space as well as a sanctuary for both students and staff to enjoy for years to come. We are also working with Woodlin Elementary School this year to provide a pollinator garden in the school parking lot and parent pick up area. If you are a parent of a student at Woodlin and would like to be involved in the volunteer installation day please let us know. We plan to schedule the project by March.
